Danielle’s formation Thursday ended a streak of more than eight weeks without a named storm, dating back to when Tropical Storm Colin fizzled out on July 3. Last month was the first August without a named storm in the Atlantic basin since 1997, and the full stretch of inactivity between July 3 and the end of August marked the first time that period of the season went without a named storm since 1941, according to Colorado State University researcher Philip Klotzbach.
